Born in Barcelona, Jesús Rodrigalvarez obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona in 2016. Supported by a "Fundació la Caixa" fellowship, he moved to the University of Cambridge to pursue his Master's degree and PhD under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Gaunt, the latter funded by The Cambridge Trust. His work focused on leveraging palladium catalysis for C–H cleavage in aliphatic amines.
In 2022, he joined Prof. Ruben Martin's group at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) as a postdoctoral researcher. During this time, he was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fellowship to explore nickel-catalyzed chain-walking reactions and its asymmetric variants. In 2025, he continued his research at ICIQ in the group of Prof. Antonio Echavarren as a Juan de la Cierva Fellow, where he developed C–H functionalization strategies mediated by gold and rhodium catalysts.
Appointed as a Serra Húnter Lecturer in 2026, Jesús returned to the University of Barcelona to establish his independent research group.
